Dirt recognized for ‘eclectic’ excellence
Dirt took home the bronze for Niche Publication from the New York Press Association for our work in 2019. We submitted three issues for consideration, whose covers featured:
New York’s weedbasket?, a look at the explosive growth of the hemp and medical marijuana industries in the black dirt.
Owning my ‘belly birth,’ an essay by upstater Emma Frisch about cultivating a positive mindset when life gives you a C-section.
The color alchemist, a piece by fermentation guru Tara Whitsitt about Audrey Reynolds, a new school-old school fashion designer who forages the ingredients to make the dye with which she hand-dyes clothing (not to mention the paint for her Warwick farmhouse’s living room walls).
The judge noted our “fun mix of eclectic stories and photos.” Hey, we’ll take weird!
