To the editor,
Today, I read your important and very relevant piece on local granaries and local bakers. We are indebted to you for writing that. And I was tickled to hear your words about Don Lewis. He’s a buddy of mine. For some years, our stands were next to each other at the Union Square farmers market in NYC. Don’s brave and untiring work to bring non-industrial grains back to the Northeast, and help build a more local, real, and expansive food system, is truly inspiring.
And Don got me started with chickens. He gave me my first rooster and then hen, Henrietta, close to 40 years ago.
