    Swan song

    I write this on my deck in dappled sunlight, in the house in which I’ve lived for almost 18 years. Like many people my age, I’m downsizing for practical and economic reasons, and will soon transition from this small home overlooking a lake to a smaller apartment overlooking a parking lot.

    But don’t feel sorry for me.
